Get it Right, Get it Tight: Super Cleanse Paired with an Awesome Workout

Have you ever done something in your life that you thought, “There is no way in HELL that I can do this?” It usually surrounds achieving a really big goal or giving up something that is meaningful. Or maybe you did something that just tastes good. I am happy to say that I just accomplished a feat I never thought I would be able to complete.

I am winding down a 3 month cleanse where I eliminated sugar of any kind, alcohol, yeast, coffee, caffeine (except green tea), most dairy, cheese, gluten, fruit, starchy veggies and many other delicious things that I love (everybody asks,
“What’s left to eat?”). This was pretty tough; I love the newly forbidden cheese, red velvet cake and pumpkin muffins!

I embarked on this cleanse for health reasons. I have been battling hypo-thyroidism, candidiasis, insomnia and chronic fatigue syndrome. Though my focus and motivation for this cleanse was initially to feel better and potentially heal my body enough to stop medication, it turned into something much more rewarding.

I NEVER thought I would be able to do this. I remember having dinner with a good friend of mine the first week I started. As I sat with her at the bar of a new Tapas restaurant, I started crying when the wine and cheese plate passed in front of me. It seems so silly to me now that I am almost finished. My 3 month marker is next Tuesday.

A couple of weeks ago, I was asked by Liz DiAlto of Tighter in 10 Days, to sit down and have a little chat regarding my cleanse. I met Liz in a women’s entrepreneurial community that we are involved in. (If you don’t know who Marie Forleo is, you should get on her list now).

As I look back on the past few months and think about what was really tough (yes I did miss chocolate and I did miss red wine), I had all my problems in the first 3 weeks. Once I got over the hump, I started feeling great. So great, in fact, that I am adopting this lifestyle for good. Maybe I won’t be so strict, but cutting out sugar and gluten has changed my life. I sleep like a baby, my head is clear, I have energy during the day like a normal person, and I can’t complain about losing the 8 pounds I put on over the summer (my yoga students know the tough classes I have been teaching on this cleanse helped). I am also much more focused and clear, not only in my teaching practice, but in my life.

During the process, I also started switching up my workout routine and focused on strength training in addition to my yoga and cardio practice. Liz offers a great program as I mentioned above. Forget that PX90 business. She has the perfect routine to get you in tip-top shape for a big event (plus it works perfectly with a cleanse). Check it out over here – Tighter in 10 Days.

Sometimes clarity and strength come hand in hand. When you clean your body, you find you have much more power than you ever imagined.
